Primary Focus: To cultivate a passion for soccer while instilling confidence with the ball

Our U7 program is aligned with Canada Soccer’s Long Term Player Development (LTPD), a model of athlete development that places the needs of the player at the forefront of everything we do. This first stage, “Active Start”, it is all about developing basic movement skills like running, jumping, landing, kicking, throwing, and catching, all in a fun setting built around positive reinforcement and informal play. Our approach is quite simple, master the ball through a variety of fun games where each player will have their own ball for the majority of the training session. Through simple Q & A and Guided Discovery coaching methods the coach will build a healthy training environment that ensures each participant is fully engaged in their own learning process. This first step in the Astra player pathway is immensely important because a strong first experience in the game will ignite the passion required for success in later years. ¬†

Astra maintains the highest standards in the province for coach education and resources to ensure that our coaches are continuous learners and developing with the latest and most proven training techniques. Our coach philosophy revolves around professionalism, commitment, confidence, leadership, and mutual respect at every session. Let’s co-create this journey together.

Primary Focus: To create a training environment where players fall in love with the game and continue to develop their movement ABC’s (Agility, Balance, Coordination) while gaining confidence with the ball.

Our U9 program is aligned with Canada Soccer’s Long Term Player Development (LTPD), a model of athlete development that places the needs of the player at the forefront of everything we do. This second stage, “FUNdamentals”, is about developing basic movement skills like running, jumping, landing, kicking, throwing, and catching, all in a fun setting built around positive reinforcement and informal play. Our focus remains on maximizing individual player development within the greater context of soccer as a team sport. This means that careful consideration is given to the social well-being of each individual as we strive to unlock each individual’s ability to excel regardless of the level that they go on to play at. We believe that this “process of becoming” not only helps to build better soccer players but also better people too.

Our technical program also provides players with the best training opportunity in the province to develop. We take an innovative and unique approach which exposes each player to age appropriate and challenging technical exercises and skill games, while also building a broader sense of the team components.

Primary Focus: Often believed to be the “golden age of learning”, we encourage imagination with an emphasis on ball mastery while also increasing demands and discipline at training.

Our U11 program is aligned with Canada Soccer’s Long Term Player Development (LTPD), a model of athlete development that places the needs of the player at the forefront of everything we do. This third stage, “Learning to Train”, is about learning by doing, which is why we employ experienced former players who allow training sessions to flow, because we recognize that fun and demand do not have to be mutually exclusive. Our coaches not only have knowledge and emotional competency to improve the players but also possess very high degree of actual playing experience. The coaches who power this program have experience ranging from U-Sport (CIS), Semi-Professional, and Professional ranks. To top it all off, this program is designed by Astra’s Director of Coaching and Athlete Development, Percy Hoff, one of the most educated and experienced soccer figures in Saskatchewan.

Primary Focus: In this stage we train players to compete at the highest standards possible and skill acquisition is still a big factor as we hone in on dribbling, passing, receiving, and striking, all within the context and complexity of game based environments. We continue to demand a standard of training ethic and discipline at each session.

At this point soccer is generally the primary sport but complimentary sports are encouraged which support movement and athleticism suitable for soccer (i.e. Track and Field). We will expose players to the attacking and defending principles of play within the context of small sided games as the focus shifts to learning to combine with other players within a team setting. Our unique player centred approach ensures that the learning process is both fun and stimulating.
